Groots bar and restaurant - If you are tired of Caribbean cooking, you can find a taste of home at Groots bar Barbados; with steak and kidney pudding or fish and chips with mushy peas, followed by a Lancashire bread and butter pudding.
Groots restaurant just outside Holetown on the West Coast of Barbados is a graffiti-daubed shed, with a bar and attached eating area. Groots was opened 15 years ago by Dutchman Hans Grootenboer. He used to run a chemical supply company in Warrington, but got fed up with the UK tax system and headed for the Caribbean.
Most nights Groots is packed, often with ex-pats and holidaymakers who are content to chat at the bar and enjoy simple but good food. The walls are daubed with signatures from visitors across the world, including a food review by Michael Winner.
